Russian Hip-hop/Rap 2012

In 2012, everybody tried show their own Hip-hop/Rap and tried new things. Because of this, everybody wanted to collaborate with other artists, who have a different taste and style. As a result, Russian Hip-hop/Rap became more borderless and multifarious. Great ukrainian rappers (e.g. Giga, Lion) also attracted a lot of attention and russian young hip-hop band Anacondaz has become very popular. Karandash was very conspicuous with Timati as an entertainer and indies unit Buhar Jerreau was featured in Rap.ru. Marselle decided to stop activities for a while and members of KREC – fuze and Marat took different ways and started solo career.

And this year, released so many long-awaited albums. Noize MC, Triada, 25/17 and Misha Mavashi have released new album and members of CENTR – Slim and Ptaha both released solo album. KREC‘s 7th album was totally different from before and surprised longtime fans. And probably, the best selling albums were new albums of Vladi(Kasta) and Guf. Vladi’s 2nd solo work “Ясно!=Clear!” is like a pop album. His 1st album was released in 2002 and I think, his inner life has changed a lot from how it was 10 years ago. But as hip-hop composition – his old hits (e.g. “Ревность = Jealousy”) have more impact. In contrast, Guf’s “Сам и …” is pure hip-hop album and as had been expected, directly and full of confidence. Before release of new albums, Vladi married and Guf had son. Such events changed their lives and it is clearly visible by their works.

From these new works, russian music notes choose best 3, which will help us to remember 2012.

2012年は、誰もが自分の信じるHip-hop/Rapを全面に提示してみせ、それ故に誰もが自分とは異なるスタイルのアーティストとのコラボレーションを試みた年だった。その結果、この1年にRussian Hip-hop/Rapというジャンルの幅は大きく広がったのではないだろうか。GigaやLionなどウクライナ勢も熱く、hip-hopバンドAnacondazも注目を集め、KarandashはエンターテイナーとしてTimatiと並んで大変目立ち、Buhar Jerreauの様なインディーズユニットがRap.ruで取り上げられた。Marselleが活動休止、KRECのマラットとフューズがそれぞれ別の道を選び事実上解散するという出来事もあった。

待望の新作が多く発表された一年でもあった。Noize MC、トリアーダ、25/17、ミーシャ・マヴァシが新作を、CENTRのプターハとSlimがそれぞれソロアルバムを発表した。KRECの7作目は今までとは全く違う味の実験的で簡素なアルバムで、長年のファンを驚かせた。そして最も売れたのはやはりヴラジ（カスタ）とGufの新譜だったのではないだろうか。ヴラジの2作目”Ясно”は、Popsの要素が強かった。前作から10年ぶりのソロアルバムだったわけだが、その間に彼の内面にどんな変化があったのか、面白いほど明確に見える作品になっていた。ただhip-hop楽曲としては初期の代表曲“Ревность = Jealousy”などの方がインパクトがあった。それに比べてGufの3作目“Сам и …” は期待通り率直で自信に満ちていて、純粋なhip-hopアルバムという感じがした。前作と今作との間にヴラジは結婚し、Gufには息子が生まれ、そういった出来事がいかに彼らの人生を変えたかがはっきりと表れていたように思う。
